WHAT IS IT?
The Semantic Web is a new evolution of the Web that enriches content with metadata about its meaning and structure. This makes it possible to search and browse the Web like a database and enables software and Web sites to makes sense of data for you.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING...

The Web's already the most important new medium since the printing press. Adding the ability to analyse it by "groups of thinking" is a truly fantastic idea - anyone else wonder when Google will show more of what's in their labs?!

The once hyped semantic web hasn't and probably won't become the focal point of "Web 3.0" as everyone imagined, social media is most likely going to be the driver going forward while the semantic web will just be useful side theme.

Today I discovered Freebase. You can run queries that you can not run with Google.

Currently, most web pages are words and pictures that can't be understood by computers very well. So if you write about "Bill Gates' garden", people searching for "garden gates" will see your page. With the semantic web, you could indicate that "Bill Gates" is a person and that he has some land that he uses as a garden. Eventually, search engines will get clever enough for you to ask "does Bill Gates have a garden?" and not see any pages about garden gates. Hope this makes a bit more sense for you @Bpods.
